How to install the theme

In order to use TimeCafe News theme you have to install “limit-post” plugin. To install the plugin upload the limit-post.php (located in “plugins” folder) to where you have installed wordpress in wp-contentplugins folder. After the file is uploaded activate it from plugins menu in your wordpress administration.

Upload the folder called “timecafe_news” to where you have installed wordpress in wp-contentthemes folder. Activate the theme from your wordpress administration menu.

Setting up the theme custom options

Once your theme is installed, under Design option (up to wordpress 2.65) or Appearance options (wordpress 2.7 +) it will be auto generated a new menu called “TimeCafe Theme Cpanel”. You can access this menu from your wordpress administration menu or from your website once you are logged in.

After accessing the theme menu you’ll have the following options:

* Featured Slider Category and number of images.

From this option you choose a category from where images will be showed in the front page and how many images will slide. When a site reader will click on these images it will be taken to the post from where the image belongs.

To assign images for the posts in the chosen category, when you write a post you’ll have to go to “Custom Field” and add the key “Slider” (with capital “S”) as the key and put the path to where your image is uploaded (trough wordpress or any other image hosting that offers direct link to the path of your image) as value. These images will slide on your homepage. The images will be automatically resized to 578 x 250 pixels.

* Top Left featured Category and Top Right Featured Category.

Under the featured category slider on your homepage are two boxes one next to each other, where titles are displayed from specific categories. Chose the two categories from where you want to feature the articles and select the number of post that you want to be displayed.

* Homepage Featured Main Area.

In the main area you should chose to feature the most updated category. Here will be showed part of your article and a thumbnail image on the left. Choose the featured category and the number of post you want to be displayed in this area.

To have thumbnails to your posts, when you write your articles go to “Custom Fields” and add the key “Thumbnail” (width capital “T”) and the path to where your image is located as “value”. I recommend adding thumbnail images to each of your posts because they will be displayed on your archives page and on the search page. Thumbnails will be resized to 110 x 80 pixels automatically.

* Video on Homepage Sidebar

You can choose to display video on the homepage sidebar by checking the box where you are asked if you want to do so. Now insert the code for your embed video from your favorite video streaming site. Make sure the video size is 280 x 250 pixels.

* Adding Newsletter from FeedBurer.

Newsletters are recommended to use for keeping your readers updated. This way they will be able to follow up the updates and they come back to your page. FeedBurner.com offer o free service of sending newsletters based on your RSS feeds.

After you have created an account you get a code for newsletter where you have a link in this format: http://feeds.feedburner.com/~e?ffid=xxxxxx where xxxxxx is a number that represent your id. Insert that number (your ID) into the field for having custom newsletter box under each of your article.

* FeedBurner RSS or wordpress RSS.

wordpress generates a RSS feed for users to be able to subscribe to your feed. Since you have a FeedBurner account you might want to use this feed for advanced statistics about your readers. You can use this feed by checking the box where you are asked If use FeedBurner RSS and insert your feed name.

The feed name is the one you chosen and it’s showed after http://feeds.feedburner.com/ insert your feed name into the field without http://feeds.feedburner.com/ and when the site readers will click on the Subscribe to RSS Feed link, they will be redirected to your FeedBurner link.

* Advertisement codes.

You can use whatever type of advertisement codes of 468 x 60 pixels in the header or 300 x 250 pixels in the sidebar. Just insert the codes into the fields.

* Using Counter Codes or Links.

If you are exchange links or use tracking codes, you can use the “Footer Counter or Links” area to put these codes there. Text will be centered under your website footer.

Custom Pages Templates

The archive page, search page and the 404 page (not found page) are using custom designs. If found keywords, the search page and the archives page shows articles compressed (for user not to scroll down to 10th article too much) and thumbnail images are assigned. If keyword in not found in search page and the 404 page show the titles of your pages, categories, archives and the latest posts.

You can also use a page template without sidebar if you want to display data that require more space. For this, when you write a static page, got to page templates and chose “No Sidebar Page”.
